Welcome to Sleeping Giant Records - now in its 28th year! From Adirondack Green on vinyl to the brand new Tongues in Trees CD released in April 2013, fifteen albums have been released since 1985. You'll find many of them here on the Albums page, along with links to videos and downloads from CD Baby.
BerggrenFolk is the performance side of things. That's been happening for 40 years - from Germany and Belgium while stationed overseas, to the Adirondacks when I returned home, then eventually all across New York State with occasional trips to Kentucky, Texas, Michigan, West Virginia, New England and back overseas to Romania, Bulgaria and Central Africa. Having grown up on the folk music of Leadbelly, The Weavers and the Clancy Brothers, I turned to the traditional songs of the Adirondacks, paying close attention to the stories of friends and neighbors, writing songs about them and sharing them with audiences near and far.
These songs are the stories of human nature, love, hard work, failure and success. While the events, names and places may be specific, the lessons learned are not new. Willa Cather wrote: "There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened before; like the larks in the country that have been singing the same five notes for over thousands of years." That's what this folk music is about.
